Route 66 - Drive the mother highway with us

“Watched your video from front to back. Smoother narration and far better selection of highlights than most commercial productions. Good job all around.” — Tom Snyder one of the Gurus of Rt 66 and the author of the Route 66 Travelers Guide.

Whether you call it Route 66, The Mother Road or America's Main Street the trip on the old road from Chicago to Los Angeles is a trip through American History. So hop on in as we tour the most famous road in the world.

Here is some of what you will see...

In Illinois, we stop by “Honest” Abe Lincolns house.

Then Route 66 in Missouri keeps us busy seeing the Meramac Caverns, interviewing Ramona Lehman at the famous Munger Moss Motel and Johnny Ferguson at the old Boots Motel.

The dozen miles of the Mother Road in Kansas prove to be delightful. Over 3 hours to go 12 miles says there is a lot to see.

Route 66 in Oklahoma includes a visit to the Will Rogers Museum, the beautiful art deco building of Tulsa and the new Oklahoma City Memorial. A visit to the Route 66 Museum in Clinton is on of the highlights of the whole trip.

America's highway turns west through Texas. A stop in the old oil town of Shamrock gives us a close up view of one of the greatest building on the old road, The U Drop Inn. Its unique design makes it stand out from the rest of the vintage buildings still present in Shamrock. A stop at the Cactus Inn in McLean gets us a great interview with Jane Shepler who tells us about the old motel and their efforts to restore it.

Further west on Route 66 in New Mexico we talk to Mike Callens, the owner of the Tee Pee Curio Shop in Tucumcari. He tells us about the history of the shop. The neon lights that called out to travelers on Route 66 are especially well preserved here. The fat man greets us at Josephs Restaurant in Santa Rosa. Good food and a lot more old landmarks to see. Albuquerque has a great downtown and the restored Kimo Theater.

Arizona provides a detour through the beautiful Petrified Forest National Park on our way to Holbrook. When we get to Joseph, we have a nice talk with the owner of the Jack Rabbit Trading post. In Seligman we chat with Angel Delgado, one of the leaders in the restoration movement of Route 66. Angel.s Barber Shop is featured in many articles about the Road. Hackberry has an old store and station that live up to the tradition of Route 66. It is complete with a red Corvette and a tribute to Bobby Troupe. Kingman and the wild burros Oatman complete our wonderful visit to Arizona on Route 66.

California Starts in Needles and we see a lot of desert on our trip to Barstow and a stop at the El Rancho Motel on Main Street. Victorville and San Bernardino are the start of the L.A. urban sprawl but Route 66 buildings and heritage still exist if you know where to look. All the way to the end of the mother road at the Santa Monica Pier there are still many thing to see.

Route 66 is a truly enjoyable and great journey from Chicago to Los Angeles.

Relive bygone days with us on a road trip. Get your kicks on Route 66.
